Traditional Meridian GuaSha Therapy

Activate your body's self-healing ability

What is Gua Sha Therapy?

Gua Sha is an ancient healing technique that began in China around 13th century. It is used in Asia by practitioners of Traditional Medicine, in both the clinical setting and in homes, but is little known in the West. "Gua" 刮 means to scrape or rub. "Sha" 痧 is a reddish, elevated patch of skin. It involves palpation and cutaneous stimulation where the skin is pressured, in strokes, by a round-edged instrument, such as a ceramic Chinese soup spoon, a well-worn coin, or, even honed animal bones, water buffalo horn, or jade. It results in the appearance of small red patches (“Sha'”), which are believed to remove blood stagnation, promoting normal circulation and metabolic processes.

Gua Sha is valuable in the prevention and treatment of acute infectious illness, upper respiratory and digestive problems, and many other acute or chronic disorders.

Head/Neck/Shoulder Gua Sha Therapy

Your head and neck are vital parts of your body, with the neck serving as a bridge connecting the head to the trunk. Your shoulders and neck bear the weight of the head and facilitate communication between the blood vessels, nerves, and meridians of the head and the rest of the body every day. Having issues in these areas can impact your daily life quality. Traditional Chinese medicine scraping treatment, also known as Gua sha, can help clear the meridians, stimulate blood circulation, and prevent lymphatic blockage. Therefore, the health of your upper body, especially our breathing, can better serve for the rest of your entire body.

From the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine, the human body is divided into three cycles: Qi (Energy) circulation, blood circulation, and water circulation. The most vital is Qi circulation because if Qi, or the energy does not flow, the blood will not circulate. If the blood does not circulate, the water/liquid will not flow. If the water does not flow, toxins will not be eliminated, causing blockage in some way.
